Side note to yesterday's post...

Can't believe I forgot to post this in yesterday's post. 

Day 2 of Daycare... I had just said good bye to Adrey and was leaving his classroom.  I pulled the door to open it and then stepped back and accidentally stepped on Adrey's friend, Sophia's, finger.  Poor thing.  I felt so bad.  She wasn't crying, rather just kind of holding her finger to her chest and whimpering.  The teacher said, "It's ok, she's fine" and then corralled the little girl over to the corner so she could put a cold pack on it.  OK, I felt horrible, but after I left the classroom I didn't really give it much more thought.

Day 3 of Daycare... I was dropping Adrey off in class and I always like to observe for a little bit all the kids doing their little activities.  I peered around the room and happen to spot Sophia.  We made eye contact so I said hello to her (not even remembering that I had stepped on her finger the day before... that had completely left my brain).  All of a sudden her hand caught my eye because she had a SPLINT and a bandage on her pinkie finger.  Me, still not even THINKING of the prior day's event said, "Oh, Sophia, what happened to your finger?" and without hesitation she said, "YOU STEPPED ON IT."  NOT. EVEN. KIDDING.  Holy crap!!  I went up to the teacher and asked if that was true if she had that bandage on because of me and the teacher said very sympathetically, "Yes, oh Leah, I didn't even want you to find out.  It was an accident.  Sophia had to get two stitches on her pinkie."  My eyes welled up with tears and I felt about this big (holding my fingers up really close together).  Poor girl and this was MY FAULT.   I left school, went straight to Target and bought her a "Get Well" toy and called her mom and apologized!  Her mom, of course, was completely understanding and not upset at all.  "Accidents happen" she said.  But man, do I feel bad!!

I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that I will, in Sophia's eyes, always be known as "the mom who stepped on my finger"!
