Adrey and Charlie both started back at day care last week (sniff, sniff). Adrey is in the big PreK3 class. That morning when I handed him his backpack and asked him to hold the sign for a picture he was so proud to do so!!
(pictures are slighly blurry because it was so humid out the lens kept fogging up!)
Charlie is now in the big 1 year old class!! He's with all the same babies as he was with last year so at least there's some familiarity for him in that regard. Um, can I just say that he EATS AT A TEENY TINY TABLE WITH TEENY TINY CHAIRS?!?! He's ONE people! It brought tears to my eyes (go figure) on day two when I witnessed it with my own two eyes. The teacher puts him in the chair and pushes him right in. He sits there and eats snacks with his friends. Lord help me. So cute!
Adrey and I first dropped off Charlie and got him settled and then headed to meet his new teacher (unfortunately we were out of town when the open house occurred so we didn't get to meet her ahead of time). Ms. Chrissy is her name and she's W.O.N.D.E.R.F.U.L.!! She is such a sweetheart. She walked us around the room and showed us the different things and also instructed me on what to and what not to bring to the classroom. I started unpacking Adrey's bag and asked her where I should put Adrey's diapers that he needs for naptime. She very nicely told me that they're not allowed to have diapers at all in PreK3. Ok. No biggie. I packed extra clothes, worst case scenerio is he has an accident. I then took out his sippy cup and she said that they drink out of cups in PreK3. Ok. Cups. Cups are good. Starting to feel emotional, I picked up Adrey and gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever and said, "Ok, Adrey, you be sure to let Ms. Chrissy know when you have to go potty, ok?". And Ms. Chrissy said, "Yes, Adrey, when you have to go you just tell me and then the potty's right there, just go ahead and go.". That's when I completely lost it and started balling my eyes out. Poor Ms. Chrissy didn't know what to do so she just embraced me with both arms and told me not to let Adrey see me! I told her that "...sometimes he needs help in the potty and that at home we're always there to help him..." and she just smiled and laughed and said that they're ALWAYS there to help them if they need help but that they encourage kids to do things on their own. And I know all this, and maybe we do cater to Adrey a bit too much, but I guess it's just because a part of me doesn't want him to grow up. A big part of me wants him to NEED me for things, even when he might be big enough to do it on his own. As much as I love watching Adrey develop, explore, experience, learn, grow, thrive, another part of me just wants him to be that little "baby". I know I'm acting like he's 16, he's only 3 and VERY MUCH DOES need and rely on us, but he IS becoming a "big boy" and it's emotional none-the-less!! You can sense his "first day jitters" in this picture of him and Ms. Chrissy!
He has finished his first week of PreK3 and did great! Charlie is adjusting well, but wouldn't you know it that on day 4 of school he started to not feel well. He woke up Friday morning with a 101.5 temperature. I ended up staying home with him and he was just the biggest cuddle bug all day. He had a fever the rest of the weekend, at one point it reached as high as 104.1, but no other real symptoms. This morning he woke up and he was coughing and a snotty mess with a temparature of 102.7. I took him to the doctor first thing and it turns out the little bean has Strep Throat. Ugh. Poor wittle guy. He's been attached to my hip or on my chest asleep much of the day. He's still as cute as a button, runny nose, crusty face and all.
He can't spot a camera and not LUNGE toward it!
Hoping he turns a corner here real soon and starts feeling better!!
