You're probably getting sick of me talking about the views. But I can't stop. The unit in Cancun faced East, which was so hard for me to grasp because we were looking out at the Gulf of Mexico so not to see a sunset on the Gulf's horizon kept getting me disoriented! I kept telling myself that I had to get up one morning and witness the sunrise. And thanks to Cha-She, who woke up at 5:30a.m. on our last day full day there, I was able to see it in all its glory. There, of course, wasn't a sole at the pool and it was perfectly quiet with the exception of the waves. It was really quite peaceful. Even Cha-She thought so:-)
And when Adrey woke up, he had to put on his shades it was so bright...
On our last evening there, we also got to see the sunset. We headed to the west side of the building with our wine and cameras and watched the sunset. It was a cloudy night, though, so we didn't actually see the sun go down because it got lost in the clouds, but the sky was beautiful.
Adrey got a hold of our camera and was taking pictures of everyone.
The Ritcheys left just after sunset because we knew that John (Lesa's John) had something up his sleeve and we had to play along. JOHN PROPOSED TO LESA!!! Talk about an AMAZING end to an AMAZING week. Lesa's John told my John on Wednesday that he was going to propose to Lesa. And even though Lesa's John told my John not to tell me, that was NOT something John could keep to himself. John busted open with the news and I felt like it was happening to ME all over again. I was THAT happy. Knowing how happy Lesa was about to be made me completely overcome with joy. Lesa and John have been together for SIX years. Just the day before, Lesa and I were painting pottery and talking about what she was going to do. She felt like it was time for him to propose but he didn't seem to be moving in that direction (she was obviously ENTIRELY wrong). Anyhoo, all this to say, we're back in the unit just WAITING for them to come back. It seemed to take FOREVER. I kept opening the door and looking down the hallway to see if they were coming! FINALLY, the front door swung open and Lesa walked in with red eyes and a red nose and a smile from ear to ear. I couldn't even ACT like I didn't know I just started smiling and I grabbed her and gave her the biggest bear hug ever. She said, "You knew?" and I told her yes and we just laughed and hugged and I felt like I was 5 again. It was such a beautiful moment and I will forever cherish the fact that I got to be a part of it. Lesa lives so far away and I only get to see her once a year and the fact that I got to witness THIS was the best gift ever!! I have never seen Lesa so truly happy. And Lesa's John. Oh, John. Bless his heart he was so emotional... here's this 6'4" guy, a total man's man and he would just think about it and get all teary eyed. I. Love. That. He loves Lesa so much and seeing his joy was so awesome. And the ring. Holy ring. It is the most beautiful ring I have ever seen! John did a GREAT job on that. Way to go JV!! Wish I had been able to get a good picture of it but the little point and shoot we brought just didn't get a clear picture.
Here's the happy couple!!
That was the icing on the cake. So happy for you guys. We feel so honored to have been a part of it.
I hate to go from engagements to vomit but that's just the course this blog is heading. Our flight left at 11:00 so we had to leave the resort at 9:20. The bus picked us up and took us to the airport. We walked inside the airport (Charlie was on my chest in the Baby Bjourn and John was holding Adrey) and headed towards the counter to check in and I realized I left my purse on the BUS. I turned around and just started running towards the door. Charlie is on my chest and laughing hysterically. And even in my moment of panic, I had to laugh right out loud with him when I heard him laugh!! I ran outside and told the first "official person" I could find. That first "official person" I found did not speak English! But some guy heard what I said and translated for me. He quickly got on the phone. Fortunately, 20 minutes my purse arrived (Jim was on our same bus ride and the bus came round the corner and out popped Jim like a little angel holding my purse! Yay Jim!)
Once the plane took off, Charlie promptly started to rub his eyes. "Sweet" I thought. So I gave him a bottle hoping he would just fall right to sleep afterwards. Not exactly. Actually, once he was done with his bottle, he sat up and threw up the ENTIRE BOTTLE on me. All over. Not even kidding. Charlie was covered and there was a stream of vomit on my shirt and my shorts were completely soaking wet. I could have rung them out. A male flight attendant walked by and I tried to hide the vomit with the iPad
Anyhoo, the rest of the trip was uneventful and we all made it home in one piece. When we got home John and I were unpacking and getting situated and we walked into our bedroom to find THIS...
Someone was not so thrilled to be home. Someone really liked Mexico.
Can't say that I blame him. It was an incredible week.
But we're home now and back into the swing of things. Looking forward to spending lots of quality time with the boys this Summer with work slowing down. I see lots of water park posts here in the future.
