I am ecstatic and relieved to report that a second ultrasound was done on Charlie and the results were NEGATIVE for Pyloric Stenosis! I can't even begin to describe how happy we are that Charlie does NOT have to have surgery!! When the first ultrasound was done, there were lots of gas bubbles in Charlie's tummy which must have thrown the results off. We met with the surgeon at the hospital on Friday morning and I told him this and he said that he'd order another ultrasound and that the surgery would not be done unless he was 100% certain that PS was the diagnosis. I was there for BOTH ultrasounds, and it was OBVIOUS, even to someone who has no idea how to read an ultrasound (me), that the second one had much clearer images. It was also obvious that the equipment at the children's hospital was way more state-of-the-art. Although I was MORE than impressed with my experiences at NCH with both deliveries, I was LESS than impressed with my experience this time... the right arm didn't know what the left arm was doing this time time around.
We were released from the hospital last night with instructions to visit a GI Specialist to see what the cause of Charlie's vomiting is. He's kept all of his "meals" down since he resumed eating and seems to be acting just fine. The surgeon and nurse both suggested that since Charlie is breastfeeding, it's possible he's been "overeating" since we have no way of measuring how much he's getting. I mentioned before about my former life as a cow, so I know that he's definitely consuming adequate amounts of milk, but it may be over adequate. I've decided to strictly pump (ugh) and bottle feed Charlie here for the next week as a trial to see if his vomiting decreases. Acid Reflux, which we already know he has, is also another culprit, so hopefully the specialist can provide him some relief. Between the two I hope we can make Charlie feel more comfortable.
I know Charlie is only 4 weeks old, but John and I both felt that last night when we got home, that Charlie seemed more calm and relaxed. Is it possible he was just happy to be home? Cuz it sure seemed that way. That made us feel so happy! We sure are happy to be home and hope that we don't have to revisit a hospital again with our little munchkin... EITHER of our little munchkins!!
Adrey spent the time that we were at the hospital at my parent's house. He had a ball!! My parents would send play-by-play pictures of Adrey just letting us know how/what he was doing. I loved knowing he was in such good hands. We are glad to be back home with him and as a family. Daily life resumes at the Ritcheys... swim lessons this morning and Mama is showing a couple properties for the first time in over a month. I'm going to bring my newest and smallest assistant, Charlie, with me too. I'll get him started young on his selling skills!
Thank you ALL for your texts, emails, Facebook messages, calls and offers to help. I know I've said it a million times but we are blessed with the best friends and family ever.
Thank you so much.
We love you all.
