Summer Cruise 2012 - Take 3

Wednesday, July 11th was our parent's
 42 wedding anniversary!!

Our third stop was San Juan, Puerto Rico.  The Ritchey's and Gigi and Boppa decided to spend the day together.  We started out with a tour of the city.  The six of us got in a van and headed in to town.  Mom and I were sitting in the way back and mom asked the driver if he could turn the fan up a little higher in the back because we were roasting.  The driver said he couldn't because then we wouldn't be able to hear him.  Mom leaned over to me and said, "That's ok, in 30 minutes I'll be dead."  Oh my gosh, we were laughing (and sweating) so hard!  After the tour we did a little shopping and got some lunch.  We were in a hot pursuit of some captain's hats for the boys.  And we found them!!

I couldn't decide which was the cutest picture so I'm posting them all.
It's my blog.  I can do that:-)

I'm kinda leaning towards this one though...

And this is Gigi two margarita's and a captain's hat later...

And Mommy two mojitos and a captain's hat later...

And as soon as we got back to the boat, the boys assumed this position almost immediately!

And while they were doing that, I decided to join Boppa on the deck to watch the boat depart from the dock.  My dad was in the Navy and used to ride in submarines.  He's very versed in the workings of a boat and the technicalities of it all.  He explained a lot to me.
Good Dad/Daughter bonding.  Loved that.
And not one single picture of the two of us doing that.  Grrrrrr.
This is the ship pushing us off the dock.

Bye bye San Juan...

My dad explained to me that, in addition to the ship's captain, there's a "pilot" that navigates the ship when arriving to and departing from a port.  The "pilot boat" drives the pilot to the ship when it's arriving at a dock and the pilot climbs up the side of the ship while it's moving (via a ladder) and then drives the boat in to port.  And then when a ship is leaving a port, the pilot is already on the boat, navigates the boat out and then the pilot ship picks him up (again, while the ship is moving).  We got to see it all first hand!  This is the pilot boat coming to get the pilot.

This is the pilot getting OFF the ship and back on to the pilot boat.

He waved to us and then went inside the pilot boat.  Dad says pilots are paid "big bucks" and usually the position is passed down in the family.  Pretty interesting!

For my parent's anniversary, we decided to have the kids go to the "kids' camp carnival" for the evening so we could have a relaxing dinner.  Adrey was NONE to pleased about this and begged us not to leave him.  Five minutes after we left him I peeked in to the room and he was perfectly content playing with the hundreds of toys they had!  Charlie never looked back from the get go!  HA!

The kids had to be picked up by 10:00 pm so Sarah and I left the table about 9:45 and went and got the kids and brought them back to dinner so they could have the cake we got for Gigi and Boppa!

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad.  We love you so much.

Ya know the books "Where's Waldo"?
This is "Where's Charlie"...
LOL!

This is our new turtle, "JoJo" that we acquired in St. Thomas.  Charlie put up the biggest stink and started screaming when we tried to take it from him before leaving a store.
So $15 later it came home with us.

This was our server, Gus.  Super nice guy.

The fun didn't stop when we got in our cabins either!
