To Beach or Not To Beach...

Yeah, well, Adrey and I went to the beach today with Aunt Sarah, Allison, Traci, Julia and Marissa. I have to say it wasn't how I envisioned... AT ALL. I don't know if it's a first-time-mom-I-have-no-idea-what-I'm-doing thing or just purely optimism, but what I imagined happening and what actually happened...yeah... two totally different things.
So, when imagining our first time at the beach... the birds were chirping in the background, there were TONS of empty parking spaces, the water was warm and Adrey and I would bob up and down in the water... me singing and him giggling, then on the beach he'd be playing in his pack-n-play with his toys and I would be laying next to him soaking in the sun.
How it really happened... We arrive at the beach and Sarah couldn't hear me calling her cell because it was so windy, so she couldn't help me carry all my stuff. I parked about a half a mile away because there was NO parking... I unloaded the car and Sarah calls. Sooooo, I pack the car back up and drive to where she is... I unload the car with all our stuff and then Adrey and I go park again... a half a mile away. I plop Adrey in the Baby Bjourn on my chest, grab our huge IKEA bag (thanks to Judee and Mats) and throw it over my shoulder and we start walking back to the beach. We get to the beach and I can't find Sarah ANYWHERE. We weren't the only ones with the bright idea to go to the beach today. After searching for 10 minutes, I finally spot Sarah. I set up "camp" which included putting up the pack-n-play (NOT FUN), and we were ready for some serious BEACH time!! I lathered Adrey up with sunblock and we were ready for some FUN!! Adrey was content for about the first... oh... 5 minutes, but I caught a few of those moments on film!!!

After the initial 5 minutes everything started to go downhill...

Seriously... as much as I HATE to see Adrey cry, I love his lower lip when he cries... melts my heart!!

I tried feeding him sweet potatoes and he cried the whole time. So I gave him a bottle, which he drank all of it. I thought that would make him all better but it didn't. The water was FREEZING, so swimming wasn't an option. I then took him for a walk, with my white rearend for the whole world to see (ugh), and that made him better for the time being, but all in all, he just was NOT havin' the beach. Nothing pacified him. It was so weird!! After an hour I had had it. I packed up camp, put Adrey back in Baby Bjorn and we were off. I left poor Sarah with the pack-n-play and my chair because I couldn't carry everything!!
We got in the car and Adrey was immediately fine. Like we were never at the beach and everything was hunky dorie. Sheesh!! When we got home we played in the front yard on a blanket and then came in and had a bath. He then took a two hour nap!! The sun, combined with all the crying, wore him out!!
Then tonight we walked over to the park right by our house to see our friends, Jen and Mike, and watch their son Billy play baseball. Billy is quite the second baseman:-) We go at least once a week to see them. It's always a nice walk there and gives us something to do in the evenings.
And at the end of the day...
Adrey has his very first farmer's tan...

Lovin' life....

How can a boy who is so upset look so freaking cute? Seriously!

Love that hat!
