Quite a day...
Today was my Grandpa's memorial service. Not a typical memorial service as my Grandpa didn't want anything done for him. But of course, we had to recognize his wonderful life. We gathered today at the pool at the complex where my Grandma and Grandpa lived. There was quite a turnout. My aunt and uncles flew in from CA and MA and all of his neighbors attended. Quite a few people spoke of memories they had of Grandpa and how they knew him. I spoke up and mentioned what a great story teller my Grandpa was. I vividly remember as a child, my Grandpa sitting on the side of the bed telling me and Sarah bedtime stories. We were riveted and hanging on his every word. His stories always revolved around the same two characters... Gobbledegook (the bad guy) and PeeWee (the good guy). PeeWee was actually a GIANT, but very good. PeeWee lived in the cedar closet in the hallway of my Grandparent's house in RI. Although PeeWee was invisible, Grandpa told us we could always tell if he was in the closet or not because of the smell (the smell of cedar... we didn't know it was the wood that smelled... and it was the only cedar closet we'd ever been in). To this day, every time I smell cedar I think of PeeWee and my Grandpa. Here is a picture of all of my family.
The service was at 2:30... the exact time that Adrey usually takes his afternoon nap. He did end up sleeping in John's arms most of the time we were there, but it certainly wasn't the usual restful nap he gets. By the time we got home he was beside himself and so saddies. I decided I'd give him a bath... that always cheers him up. Giving Adrey a bath is one of my FAVORITE things to do with him. He loves it and a smile always comes of it!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE his bum bum. Seriously... it's the cutest thing in the world...
Katelyn's 7th birthday was December 3rd. Tonight she had a slumber party with four of her friends to celebrate.

What a great memory of your Grandpa. I'll be thinking of that story the next time I smell cedar, too.
